The roots of the University of Hohenheim go back to the year 1818. As a reaction to crop failures and famines, King Wilhelm I of Wuerttemberg founded an agricultural academy for teaching and experiments in Hohenheim which later became the University of Hohenheim.
Based on the founding idea, the University of Hohenheim has since felt obligated to the goal of fighting hunger and promoting high-performing and sustainable agricultural practices.
The current profile of the University is unique due to the combination of its three faculties (Agricultural as well as Natural and Business, Economics and Social Sciences). Today, the University of Hohenheim is an internationally oriented campus University focused on cooperation and research. With this profile, the University pursues interdisciplinary research concentrations in the following areas:
• Bioeconomy
• Global Food Security and Ecosystem Research
• Health Sciences
